Walden Media has acquired a pitch about a tortoise who adopts a baby hippo, according to Variety.
Tortoise and Hippo will be penned by Shrek co-writer Roger S.H. Schulman and produced by Mike Menchel of Relevent Entertainment. The idea for the movie, in which an old Indian tortoise takes a baby hippo on a dangerous voyage to its home in Africa when he develops paternal feelings towards it, came from Menchel when his daughter showed him a photo of a tortoise and baby hippo who had become friends following the Asian Tsunami last December.
The film will feature a mix of live-action and computer-animated elements.
