Francis Ford Coppola will take the director's chair on Youth Without Youth, says Variety.

The low-budget, self-financed project will mark Coppola's first direction since 1997's The Rainmaker and will begin production on October 3 shooting in Bucharest. Coppola will also produce under his American Zoetrope banner, with Fred Roos and Anahid Nazarian executive producing.

Based on the novella by Romanian author Mircea Eliade, it will tell the story of a professor whose life changes after an incident in the years before World War II. As a fugitive he is pursued across Romania, India, Malta and Switzerland.

The movie will star Tim Roth, Alexandra Maria Lara, Bruno Ganz and Marcel Iures
