Catherine Hardwicke (Lords of Dogtown) has signed on to direct The Monkey Wrench Gang for Columbia Pictures, Variety reports.
Based on Edward Abbey's novel of the same name, the film will follow a group of environmental warriors' clashes against road builders and other land developers in southern Utah.
The 1975 novel, from which William Goldman is taking a new draft of the screenplay, was highly influential in motivating a generation of environmentally-minded saboteurs.
