Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
Edgar Wright has revealed that his Scott Pilgrim adaptation is influenced by The Breakfast Club and Say Anything.

The director told The Hollywood Reporter that he and co-writer Michael Bacall watched the John Hughes and Cameron Crowe '80s classics to prepare for their big screen version of Bryan Lee O'Malley's cult comic book.

"I've never adapted anything before, and there's no film similar to Scott Pilgrim - it's a romantic comedy that explodes into an action film," Wright said. "Michael and I looked at films within the 'teen romance' and 'fight' genres, like The Breakfast Club and Say Anything.

"It was about finding the language that rhymed and recurred between the two genres. We wrote down dialogue that revolved around fights or relationships and phrases that would occur in both."

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, starring Michael Cera as a twentysomething who battles his girlfriend's seven evil ex-boyfriends, opens on August 13 in the US and August 25 in the UK.
