Producer Steve Iles described the film as "Assault On Precinct 13 meets The Thing”.
Mutant Chronicles director Simon Hunter is behind the project.
“Safe House is totally different from Chronicles, which was a big canvas. This is a world that I’m going to portray in an extremely realistic way," he said.
Image Engine, the visual effects team that created the aliens for District 9, is in talks to design the movie's monsters.
Production is scheduled to begin in March.
