The comedian, who appeared as weatherman Brick Tamland in the 2004 film, announced that he backed plans by Anchorman director Adam McKay and main star Will Ferrell to take the movie to the stage in order to convince Paramount Studios to rethink its refusal to greenlight a sequel.
"Adam McKay and Will - they had an idea... that we'd do it as a Broadway musical with the original cast," he said. "We would develop bits and things within the show. And then at the end of the Broadway run we would go shoot a movie. That was the idea."
However, Carell accepted that for now the stage adaptation idea is nothing more than a pipedream, adding: "I would love to do it... maybe one day."
