Released last weekend, Goal! tells the rags-to-riches story of Santiago Munez (Kuno Becker) who gets transported from playing in his local league in America to playing for high-profile English club Newcastle United.
The sequel, which began filming this week, will see the hero move to Real Madrid, where he meets Stone's character who tries to win his affections and steal him away from current girlfriend Anna Friel.
A friend of Stone told the newspaper: "She was surprised when the producers asked her to come in for a screen test - but she had a really good time doing it and gave it her best shot.
"She's really chuffed they've decided to go for her, even though she's not a trained actress.
"The role is kind of different to the way most people see her, as she's going to have to play a bit of a bitch - that's what she's looking forward to the most!"
