'Gromit' warehouse devastated by fire
Props from films including Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit features have been destroyed after a fire ravaged Aardman Animations' warehouse in Bristol.

The fire broke out 5:30 yesterday morning, having devastating effects upon models and storyboards from Wallace and Gromit shorts A Grand Day Out, The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave. The cause of the fire has yet to be identified.

Props for the duo's new feature-length adventure Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit were left unharmed.

Variety quotes Aardman's Arthur Sheriff as saying that the fire "had nothing to do with the studio. It was a storage warehouse on the other side of Bristol.

"Everything from Morph to Chicken Run has gone," he explained. "All the sets, all the props, a lot of the models and particularly the storyboards. When any director works on one of our projects, the storyboards have a lot of comments on them, and we save them for exhibition purposes. It is devastating."

Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park added: "Even though it is precious and nostalgic stuff -- and valuable to the company -- in light of other current tragedies in the news, it's not a big deal."

Curse of the Were Rabbit, currently dominating the US box office chart, hits UK screens this Friday.
