Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire director Mike Newell is in talks to direct an adaptation of a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel.

Based on the book 'Love in the Time of Cholera', the film will focus on a love triangle in turn-of-the-century South America. Two young lovers strive to reunite after a long period of marriages, affairs and death, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Ronald Harwood (The Pianist) wrote the screenplay, whilst Scott Steindorff is set to produce for Stone Village Entertainment.
