According to The Wrap, producer Ed Pressman has recruited Cave to rework Norrington's script before the comic book adaptation goes in front of cameras later this year.
A "major actor" was reportedly offered the lead role in The Crow last month.
Cave penned two films for fellow Australian filmmaker John Hillcoat, Ghosts... Of The Civil Dead and outback Western The Proposition. He has also worked on scripts for Hillcoat's upcoming feature The Promised Land and an unmade Gladiator sequel.
The original Crow, released in 1994, centred on a murdered rock star who comes back from the dead to seek revenge on his killers. Star Brandon Lee died during filming when he was shot by a blank bullet. Director Alex Proyas completed the movie after the accident as a tribute to Lee.
