Written and directed by Leon Ichaso, the film will chronicle the life of renowned salsa singer Hector Lavoe. Although a leading member of the salsa scene in the 1970s, heroin addiction ruined him financially and he died from AIDS-related complications. Lopez will play Hector's wife, Puchi.
Filming will start on November 14 in New York for a four-week run, to be followed by a week in Puerto Rico.
