Tom Hardy has been cast in McG's action-comedy This Means War, reports Vulture.

The Inception star will replace Sam Worthington in the 20th Century Fox production, which centres on two spies who wage war across New York when they fall in love with the same woman.

Star Trek's Chris Pine and Hardy are playing the agents who clash, while Reese Witherspoon has the role of the woman that ignites the feud.

Bradley Cooper and Seth Rogen were both rumoured for the project recently, but stepped aside from co-starring with Pine in the blockbuster.

British actor Hardy will also take on the title role in George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road next year.
