Russell Brand gets comedy 'Hawkwood'

Russell Brand will play a Renaissance-era swordsman in comedy Hawkwood, reports Deadline.

The movie revolves around the swashbuckling adventures of the eponymous character, who is hired to lead various European armies into battle.

The 20th Century Fox historical comedy will be written by Jared Stern and produced by Brand, Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark and Nicky Weinstock.

Brand is currently filming the remake of Dudley Moore's '80s comedy Arthur with Helen Mirren and Jennifer Garner. He also has the part of Trinculo in Mirren's revival of The Tempest.
