Dakota Fanning is set to lead Laika Entertainment's animated film Coraline, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on Neil Gaiman's best-selling novel, the movie will tell the story of a girl who walks through a secret door in her new house and discovers an alternate and superior version of her life. However, events turn sour when her duplicate parents try to keep her forever.
Henry Selick, who is writing and directing the picture, explained: "It's sweet kismet. Dakota is a very gifted actor who will bring great skill and emotional depth to the character. It will be an honour to work with her."
Selick's previous credits include Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach.
Laika's Mary Sandell will produce alongside Bill Mechanic through his Pandemonium Films.
