The actor, who was rumoured to have put in a bid to purchase the company last month, partnered with the chairman of Colony Capital LLC and Tom Barrack for the takeover, according to Contactmusic.
Lowe said: "The acquisition of a classic brand like Miramax is an exciting first step in my partnership with Tom Barrack and Colony Capital. This represents an exciting new chapter for me."
Miramax founders Harvey and Bob Weinstein sold the company to The Walt Disney Company in 1993, following their decision to launch The Weinstein Company.
