Summit Entertainment and Mandalay Pictures have acquired the rights to Richard Matheson's short story Death Ship which also featured as an episode of Twilight Zone.
Entitled Countdown, the story is being rewritten by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas from a previous draft by Scott Burn and Stephen Gregg. Brandt and Haas, whose previous credits include Matt Helm, Red Rabbit and 2 Fast 2 Furious, will also executive produce.
Matheson's tale followed a group of astronauts who land on a planet to find their own dead bodies in a ship identical to their own. They then struggle to escape the time loop in which they are plagued by hostile creatures.
