Lost director Jack Bender is believed to be the frontrunner to helm Paramount's Jack Ryan reboot Moscow.

According to Vulture, Bender, who was also an executive producer on the ABC series, is a "cat's breath away" from signing up to steer the forthcoming spy thriller.

Chris Pine will take on the role of Tom Clancy's CIA operative in Moscow, which features the character being plucked from the Marines and having to go on the run after getting implicated in a terrorist plot.

Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck have previously portrayed Ryan on the big screen.

Bender's other credits include The Sopranos, J.J. Abrams's Alias and the movie Child's Play 3.
