Nicolas Cage has reportedly quit the cast of upcoming action thriller Trespass.

According to Deadline New York, no reason was given for Cage's abrupt exit from the project.

Joel Schumacher is directing the picture, which centres on a husband and wife who are taken hostage.

Cage was to play the leader of the kidnappers.

Nicole Kidman and Jordana Spiro are still attached to co-star. Kidman will star as the wife and Spiro will portray the kidnapper's girlfriend.

Liev Schreiber is reportedly in talks to take on the husband role.
