According to Variety, the Watchmen producer will adapt Mage: The Hero Discovered into a movie.
The first arc was published from 1984 to 1986, with second arc The Hero Defined following in 1990. Third and final arc The Hero Denied has long been planned, but there has been no indication from Wagner about when it will be published.
"It has always been a favourite book of mine," said Levin.
"It's one of the great untapped comic books from the '80s renaissance that also spawned Watchmen and Batman: Dark Knight."
A previous Mage project was headed by Spyglass Entertainment with Zack Snyder attached as director.
"The timing is good," said Wagner. "In the past, [filmmakers] tried to fix the material. Now they try to adhere to the material."
Levin's other credits include both Hellboy films, Mystery Men and The Rocketeer.
