The actor, who plays a cop who accidentally shoots Jeter in the comedy, has claimed that his latest role will earn him notoriety in his home town of Boston, due to the rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox.
In an interview with Teen Hollywood, he said: "I was certainly thrilled to do it. I felt bad afterwards because he’s such a nice guy. We are going to screen the movie in Boston. I cannot wait. I just became a legend in Boston."
Wahlberg also revealed that it was a "dream come true" working with co-stars Will Ferrell, Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L Jackson.
He added: "I had a lot of fun making this movie. I felt very comfortable working on anything cop-ish or action. But, with all the other stuff, I just wanted to follow their lead. I've always wanted to do a comedy and to get an opportunity to work with these guys was a dream come true."
The Other Guys is currently playing in the US and arrives in UK cinemas on September 2.
