'Kill Bill' plagiarism case thrown out

A French court has thrown out a plagiarism case against Kill Bill composer Malcolm McLaren.
Benjamin Beduneau had accused McLaren of stealing his song 'Sound Smith' for the track 'About Her'. He told the court he had submitted the composition to McLaren for another project that was never completed. Beduneau said he registered the song in 2003 with French performers' rights body Sacem, and that he wanted damages and the return of the original recordings.
However, McLaren's lawyer said that his client was the author of the track and that Beduneau's involvement stretched as far as music samples which he had asked him to compile. He also said that McLaren had copyrighted the song in the US and UK.
A court in Angers ruled against Mr Beduneau, saying that there was insufficient proof of plagiarism. Beduneau was then ordered to pay £1008 in "procedural damages" to Mr McLaren.
