Kung Fu Hustle, a comedy about a landlord and landlady who use their kung-fu skills to save their neighbourhood from gangsters, has won the award for best director for Stephen Chow at Taiwan's Golden Horse Awards.
Meanwhile, Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou won for his debut film Initial D, in which he plays a racing car driver. He said that winning the award had made him "quite happy." He added that he had felt nervous about the awards, as he was "not very confident about acting, unlike my music."
Best actor and actress went to Aaron Kwok (Divergence) and Shu Qi (Three Times). Shu called the process of filming Three Times "really tough." Her director, Hou, who won best Taiwanese film-maker, said that "I hope we can do better with the Chinese-language films...so that foreign films will not take over the entire market."
