In 2008, Michael Douglas signed up to play the pianist and Matt Damon boarded the film as his love interest. Steven Soderbergh was hired to helm the picture, but the project has since been delayed.
Speaking to Metro, 72-year-old Weintraub said: "I'm still told today that projects I work on won't work out but I keep on going.
"I'm working on the life story of Liberace with Michael Douglas as Liberace, Matt Damon as the boyfriend and Steven Soderbergh directing it. Liberace and I were good friends."
Last month, Damon suggested that the movie would start shooting in summer 2011.
However, Douglas has since been diagnosed with throat cancer, leading to rumours that his voice might be affected by treatment. It is not clear how the diagnosis will affect Douglas's upcoming projects.
