The actor also revealed that his character was newly added to the reimagined script.
He told MTV: "I play the asshole. It's fun, but I keep getting cast as the asshole, which I don't know how to take. He has no redeeming qualities, so you're just going to hate me throughout this whole thing and be praying for my death.
"The original is very campy, very '80s in an awesome way. It's a cult classic. That movie would not work today. It's obviously the same concept, but a lot has changed to make everything make sense. For example, my character wasn't even in the original."
He added: "I've seen some of the footage of the bloodier scenes, and I personally am a huge horror fan. What I like about this movie is that they're really going for it."
Fright Night is currently in production and is scheduled for a 2011 release.
