Paul Verhoeven to direct 'Hidden Force'

Robocop director Paul Verhoeven has reportedly agreed to helm forthcoming drama The Hidden Force.

The picture is an adaptation of the Dutch novel of the same name by Louis Couperus, according to Variety.

The story, which takes place in 1900 on the island of Java in the Dutch East Indies, was also adapted in 1974 for a Dutch TV series.

The project marks Verhoeven's first film since the 2006 drama Black Book. His previous movies also include Starship Troopers, Total Recall and Basic Instinct.
