Matthew Vaughn has revealed that he is devising a replacement for the UK Film Council after it was axed by the government.

The director, best known for helming Stardust and Kick-Ass, admitted that he suggested the organisation should be closed and that he is now working on a more effective replacement.

According to the Daily Mail, Vaughn wants a share of the profits from films made in Britain to go to the government to boost the industry.

He said: "We have the two biggest franchises of all time: Harry Potter and James Bond. You can't get more British product than Potter and Bond. Shot in England. Made by the British. But all the money goes back to America."
