Sean Connery has received a lifetime achievement award at the European Film Awards in Berlin, where multinational movie Cache won best film.

The 75-year-old Bond star has been acting for more than 50 years and has starred in more than 75 films.

"I am very honoured," he said, and explained that he wished Scotland was independent and could have a voice in Europe for itself. "You're stuck with me for the moment," he commented.

Best movie winner Cache was made by a team including French, Austrian, German and Italian producers. Daniel Auteuil, who starred in the film, won best actor, while Austrian Michael Haneke took the prize for best director.

George Clooney's Good Night, and Good Luck was named best non-European film.
