The Precious actress, who held off competition from Lauren German and Smallville's Kristin Kreuk to win the part, will play a young operative who works with Tom Cruise's secret agent Ethan Hunt.
Jeremy Renner, Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg are also among the cast for the movie, which will jettison the Mission: Impossible 4 title and rebrand the spy series.
Brad Bird (The Incredibles) is directing the film for a December 2011 release.
