Olivia Thirlby boards 'Judge Dredd' cast

Olivia Thirlby has joined the cast of DNA Films's 3D Judge Dredd movie.

The Juno star will play Cassandra Anderson, a telepathic rookie cop who teams up with the titular antihero.

Karl Urban (Star Trek) has already been cast as Dredd, the comic book law enforcer who serves as judge, jury and executioner in Mega-City One.

Brit filmmaker Pete Travis will direct the $45 million (£29m) movie in South Africa this year from a script by Alex Garland, reports Variety.

The character, created by John Wagner, Carlos Ezquerra and Pat Mills, first appeared in a 2000AD science fiction anthology in 1977 and was played by Sylvester Stallone in a 1995 movie adaptation.
