Chloe Moretz has reportedly been named as the favourite to win the lead role in the upcoming film adaptation of Suzanne Collins's Hunger Games trilogy.

The Let The Right One In star is said to have surpassed shortlisted actresses Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning to play Katniss Everdeen, a teenager fighting against a dystopian government, reports USA Today.

The 13-year-old has also expressed interest in taking part in the series, telling Shockya.com: "I really, really want to be in it.

"I would so, so, so, so, so love to be in this film. It would be such an honour to be in it."

However, no official casting announcements have been made.

The Hunger Games, written by Collins and Flightplan screenwriter Billy Ray, is due to begin production in 2011.
