'Brokeback Mountain' named best film

Brokeback Mountain has been named the best film of 2005 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
Starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, the movie is based on Anne Proulx's short story of the troubled relationship between a pair of ranch hands after working together on the eponymous mountain one summer.
Ang Lee received the award for best director for his work on the film, whilst Heath Ledger was the runner-up for the award for best actor, which went to Phillip Seymour Hoffman for his performance in Capote.
The award for best actress went to Vera Farminga for her role in Down to the Bone, pipping Judi Dench (Mrs. Henderson Presents) to the honour.
Catherine Keener and William Hurt won the awards for best supporting actress and actor, Keener for her roles in Capote, The 40-Year-Old Virgin and The InterpreterA History of Violence.
Capote and The Squid and the Whale are tied in the award for best screenplay. Other awards saw Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit being dubbed the best animation of the year, whilst Howl's Moving Castle took the honour for best music/score.
The awards ceremony was scheduled for January 17, 2006.
