'King Kong' takes £10.1m in first day

The remake, which has had one of the biggest launches in US film history, managed £5.5m in the US and Canada alone. However, it looks unlikely to set any records, as Spider-man managed $114.8m in its opening weekend back in 2002 and Star Wars epic Revenge of the Sith took $158.5m in four days earlier this year.
US box office expert Gitest Pandya said: "It's a little too early to say what this means for King Kong. Based on exit polls, fans who did come out are all loving it."
As well as this, Nikki Rocco, who heads up Universal Pictures' US distribution arm, said she believed it was "a great way to start out. With £10m and 1.5 million people out there talking about how great it is, it all works to build what we think will be a holiday smash hit."
