The actress - who portrayed the bisexual hacker in the Swedish-produced Millennium films - claimed that she was never approached by the remake's director David Fincher (Fight Club) about reprising the role she originated on screen.
"I never met him, nobody asked me and I didn't want to do it," she said in an interview with indieWIRE. "It's interesting when people think you're always full of s**t because I always said that I'm done with her, I did everything I could."
She continued: "When it was [announced] that is was David Fincher, people came back to me and said, 'Okay, have you changed your mind because it's David Fincher?'. No, why should I? I respect him, I think he's great but never, I can't see any reason to do it again. It's up to somebody else."
Rooney Mara (A Nightmare On Elm Street) will take on the role of Salander in Fincher's Dragon Tattoo remake opposite Daniel Craig's Mikael Blomkvist.
