Keira Knightley is to appear in an adaptation of Alessandro Baricco's best-selling novel Silk, KeiraWeb.com has revealed.
The Red Violin's Francois Girard will direct from a script he has worked on following a first draft by the novelist himself.
Baricco's novel tells the story of the unrequited love between a married silkworm smuggler and a European concubine of a baron in 19th Century Japan. Matters get more complicated when the man's wife (Knightley) begins to suspect.
Filming is expected to begin next Spring.
