Michael Pitt is to join Keira Knightley in the adaptation of Alessandro Baricco's novel Silk.
According to KeiraWeb.com, Pitt has taken the male lead in the movie as Herve Joncour, a married silkworm smuggler who becomes obsessed with a European concubine on a business trip to Japan. After his return to France, the pair's long-distance unrequited love continues and Herve's wife (Knightley) begins to suspect.
Francois Girard is directing from his own screenplay, based on a previous script by author Baricco.
