According to The AP, Franklin insisted that the Oscar-winning actress is her first choice to play a younger version of herself in the forthcoming film. Franklin also said that she is interested in having Denzel Washington play her late father and Terrence Howard portray Smokey Robinson.
The biopic, which is currently in pre-production, will be based on the soul singer's autobiography Aretha: From These Roots.
Franklin, 68, said that the actors are "enthusiastic about the project and have agreed to take on these roles, subject to further negotiation".
