The film stars Rainn Wilson as an ordinary man who dresses up in a superhero costume to fight crime using a plumbing wrench, reports Deadline.
Super also stars Ellen Page as Wilson's sidekick and Kevin Bacon as an evil drug dealer.
IFC purchased the rights at the 2010 Toronto Film Festival, where the film premiered last Friday.
The movie was written and directed by James Gunn.
“I never had to compromise in the making of this movie and I couldn't be more excited to have found a distribution partner wanting to embrace the extremities and balls-to-the-walls qualities of Super," said Gunn.
Producers Miranda Bailey and Ted Hope said in a statement: "Super is special because it has lots of unique qualities that make it an indie film and we are thrilled IFC Films is releasing it because they are independent cinema and totally get the spirit of the film and what it’s about."
