Singapore film Be With Me has been barred from the Oscars for having too much English.
Judges decided it had more English dialogue than any other, so did not qualify as a foreign film. A spokesman said: "English isn't a foreign language".
Tajikistani Sex and Philosophy and Say Good Morning to Dad from Bolivia did not reach the judges in time so were also disqualified. A Dutch film was disallowed as it had already been shown on television.
