The pair have described the untitled project as "an epic human story, set in a futuristic world without humanity". Edwards plans to write the script for the project first before setting it up with financing.
Edwards's directorial debut Monsters, which has been screening to rave reviews at festivals, was reportedly made for $100,000 (£65,000) with a further $400,000 (£260,000) invested to complete the visual effects.
Monsters debuts in American cinemas next month before getting a UK release on November 26.
