Chirac's choice for Da Vinci Code

Published Saturday, Dec 31 2005, 00:02 GMT | By Fiona Edwards
Jacques Chirac has reportedly tried to get a friend of his daughter a role in the new Da Vinci Code movie.

The French President received the director and producer of the adaptation of the popular Dan Brown novel at the Elysée last December. The pair were in Paris seeking permission to film in the Louvre, where much of the action of The Da Vinci Code takes place.

"We thought it was going to be a five-minute thing, like a trip to the Oval Office - a photo and a handshake," Grazer told Newsweek. The meeting actually extended to an hour-long visit in which the President reportedly suggested that they cast an actress friend of his daughter Claude as the main female lead, Sophie Neveu.

The role of the French code-breaker Neveu was eventually given to star of Amelie, Audrey Tautou.
