Alex Gonzalez joins 'X-Men: First Class'

Alex Gonzales has been cast in Matthew Vaughn's comic book prequel X-Men: First Class.

According to SlashFilm, the actor has signed on to portray the villainous mutant Riptide in the Marvel Comics project.

Created by Chris Claremont, John Romita Jr and Dan Green, Riptide first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #211 in 1986. The character has the ability to spin his body at an incredibly fast rate and is a known accomplice of the evil Mister Sinister.

Gonzalez joins a cast including James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, Kevin Bacon and January Jones. The movie is slated for release on June 3, 2011.
