According to Vulture, Eastwood wants Phoenix to portray Clyde Tolson in his upcoming J. Edgar Hoover biopic Hoover.
Tolson was the associate director of the FBI from 1947 to 1972 and a close personal friend of Hoover. Many have speculated that Tolson and Hoover were a homosexual couple.
An offer has gone out to Phoenix for the role.
Leonardo DiCaprio is said to be attached to play Hoover, but he has yet to officially board the project.
