The 60-year-old actress, who previously hinted at her involvement in the follow-up to James Cameron's sci-fi epic, explained that the fantastical nature of the Avatar universe meant her character Dr. Grace Augustine could easily make a reappearance, despite supposedly dying in the original movie.
When asked by Collider about Avatar 2, Weaver replied: "Well, I'm not at liberty to talk about it, but anything can happen in science fiction."
Weaver further hinted at her commitment to the Avatar franchise by rejecting suggestions that she should reprise her role of Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott's Alien prequels.
"I think my Alien days are over," she said. "My Avatar days are beginning."
