Jon Stewart has been chosen to host the 78th Annual Academy Awards, according to sources.
The Hollywood Reporter states that the Los Angeles Times' Oscars site reported the news yesterday, though the Academy has so far declined to comment.
The identity of producer Gil Cates' choice for the job has been the subject of much speculation recently, with previous Oscars hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Steve Martin being among the favourites. Last year's host Chris Rock was not asked to reappear, whilst eight-time presenter Billy Crystal turned down the offer to reprise the duties.
The awards ceremony will be held on March 5.
