Streep, Roberts to star in 'August'

Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts are considering teaming up to play mother and daughter in a film version of Pulitzer prize-winning play August: Osage County.

Tracy Letts's story centres on a family that begins to unravel after the death of the patriarch. Streep will play the drug-addict mother of the family, while Roberts would play her daughter, whose teacher husband has slept with one of his students.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Wells is already signed up to direct the project for The Weinstein Company, working from a script he penned with Letts.

August debuted at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 2007 before having stints on Broadway and London.
