Johnson: 'Nowhere Boy not impersonation'

The biopic follows an "untold" period of Lennon's life previously unknown to fans and features the actor as a young version of the former Beatles star.
"We didn't want to do an impersonation," he told Pop Eater. "We sort of wanted to embody the soul, the spirit and essence of Lennon as an ordinary guy."
Director Sam Taylor-Wood added: "We had to be as obsessive as the fans are obsessive."
Nowhere Boy opens on limited release in the US on October 8.
