Asked if he felt there were opportunities to make big budget films examining the economic and social climate, the filmmaker replied: "Hell no!"
Speaking to Digital Spy, Stone explained that movies not featuring guns or action sequences were difficult to make.
He said: "You're talking about a very complex issue of where society is now and who knows the answers? I'm just looking around me and trying to decide, use this as a background.
"I'm not doing a documentary, it's a personal story, it's tough stuff to do. Financial movies aren't going to be done very much by Hollywood because there's no guns and no action in it."
Stone added that financial language can often prove to be an obstacle for audiences, saying: "You've got to figure out ways of creating tension in a very complex world where people don't understand some of the language, like leverage or derivatives or discount windows."
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps is in UK cinemas now.
