James Cameron is reportedly in negotiations to direct a film version of the recent Cleopatra biopic.

Metro claims that Cameron is in talks with Sony Pictures about helming the film, which will be made in 3D.

Angelina Jolie has long been linked with the lead role, although there has been no official announcement regarding the film's cast.

Cleopatra will be adapted from the book Cleopatra: A Life, written by Stacy Schiff, and will tell the life of the famed Egyptian queen.

Elizabeth Taylor portrayed Cleopatra in the the 1963 version of the film, which became renowned for going massively over-budget and costing $44 million to make.
