The producer, whose new movie with husband Zack Snyder Legend Of The Guardians opens in the UK this week, told DS that she did not believe converting the movie to 3D in post-production would do it justice.
"Sucker Punch was supposed to be in 3D, but when we started working on [Legend Of The Guardians] and saw what it takes to pull off the 3D, how much planning goes into every shot, we realised that to convert Sucker Punch - it wasn't shot that way - would be a mistake," she explained.
"We didn't think it would live up to our expectations. So we talked to the studio (Warner Bros) and said, 'Listen, the film is beautiful and very designed to begin with, we don't want to ruin it'."
Snyder added: "Too many films are jumping on the 3D bandwagon and we can't be one of them."
Warner Bros also recently shelved plans to release the first part of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows in 3D.
Sucker Punch, starring Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish and Carla Gugino, is due for release next March.
