The follow-up - titled Piranha 3 DD - is to be made by the team behind Feast, the low-budget monster movie developed as part of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's Project Greenlight TV show.
John Gulager will direct the new Piranha from a script by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. A release in August 2011 is planned.
